Hornets Rule Honor Roll Meet
Four of
five boys from Williamston added one
to their wins column last night at
The Lansing Area Wrestling
Officials' Honor Roll meet at
Lansing Eastern. At 140 pounds Brad
Simmons blanked Phil Emmons of Holt
6-0, Devin Young earned a major
decision over Drew Richards of
Lansing Eastern 13-4 at 145, and Big
Dusty Stiffler pinned Eastern's
Thomas Martell in 5:49. In the
premier match-up of the night at 160
pounds our undefeated and number 1
ranked Jeremy Bloom put on the line
against Jacob Wyatt of Lansing
Sexton. Wyatt is ranked number 2 in
division 2 and came in with a 35-2
mark.
1st Period: Bloom takes
Wyatt down with a swing single,
rides him out, leads 2-0 at end of
1st
2nd Period: Wyatt takes
down, escapes, then fights off a
Bloom single leg and comes back with
a double for a takedown, Wyatt leads
3-2. Bloom escapes at the end of the
period to tie the match 3-3 going
into the 3rd.
3rd Period: Bloom starts
down. Wyatt rides Bloom out for the
first minute or so with no problem.
Wyatt is warned for stalling on top,
then Bloom escapes with about 20
seconds left. Wyatt shoots in on a
deep shot at the edge of the mat but
doesn't get the takedown, only 4
seconds left. Right at the whistle
Wyatt attempts a quick shot but no
time, Bloom wins 4-3 to move to
46-0.
Also on the mat for the
Hornets was Tim Grant at 171 pounds
who dropped a close 4-3 decision to
Dylan Haan of Charlotte.
It was a good night to be
a Hornet! Read more about it in the
Lansing State Journal
here.
Now it's all about the
big show. Devin Young, Jeremy
Bloom, and Dusty Stiffler are
working hard in their quests for a
state title. The largest high
school state tournament in the
country starts next Thursday at the

Saturday as we bring in the Highland
Park District and see who gets to make
the trip to the Palace. Check the
Hornets' Nest

For the third

Tournament Time
Well, the Hornets
dropped the last league dual at home on
Thursday losing 51-27 to Haslett, but it was
still a fun night. In front of a nice
parent's night crowd Jeremy Bloom announced
his verbal commitment to wrestle for the
Spartans of Michigan State.
He will be
attending college on an academic scholarship
and majoring in pre-med with plans for being
an anesthesiologist. Jeremy has a long
background in wrestling starting when he was
8 years old. His father Scott was a state
champion at Dansville and a Collegiate
wrestler at Olivet and has always been one
of his coaches. Jeremy is a four year
letter winner at Williamston and a 2 year
co-captain of his team. After finishing
second in the state in D3 at 160 pounds last
season and wrestling for the second year for
Team Michigan at the Cadet & Junior National
Freestyle and Greco Roman Championships in
Fargo, ND he is having a stand-out senior
year. Jeremy is currently 33-0 and has
won the following invitationals:
Stockbridge, Bridgeport, Howell, Grand
Ledge, Williamston, Quincy, and
Constantine. He was named the Outstanding
Wrestler at Grand Ledge and Williamston.
Overall his career win total is quickly
approaching 150. He again plans to compete
at the Junior Nationals before enrolling at
MSU and being a part of the Spartan
Wrestling Team with two of his best
friends that also helped to make him a great
wrestler, Nick and Andy Simmons.
In addition to his accomplishments
on the mat he was also one of the
football team's MVPs, First Team
All-Conference, and he was named to the
Football Academic All-State First Team. In
the spring he plans on continuing his
contributions to the track team as a pole
vaulter and discus thrower. Jeremy carries
a perfect 4.0 GPA and is number 1 in his
class. Congratulations Jeremy!!!
This week the Hornets travel to
Carson City on Wednesday for a pair of
matches at 6:00pm and then on Saturday go to
Lakewood for the CAAC Division 3 League
Tournament at 10:30am. It's Tournament time
and several of our grapplers are sure to
make a splash in the post-season so I hope I
see you there!
