The News

2006 - 2007

4/19/07 - At the booster club meeting last night, the golf outing details were tightened a little bit more.  We really need a strong effort in securing sponsorships and golfers.  Each wrestler will be bringing sponsorship/golfer forms home. They are also found on the website: http://www.williamstonwrestling.com/Golf.htm

We still need to people to volunteer for certain jobs.  Specifically, we need someone to run the 50/50 in the afternoon, someone to help sell hot dogs at the turn.

Our next meeting will be May 8 at 7 PM at the Brookshire.  We need as many people to come so that we can ensure the golf outing goes off w/o a hitch.

The Leadership Meeting this morning narrowed our choice of camp.  We will go to either Ohio State or Fraser Technique.  These dates are similar...June 17-22.  More info to come.

We are also in the planning stages of holding a youth camp (grades 3-7) and technique camp for the high schoolers.

Freestyle practice is still MW from 6-7:30.  There is a tournament in Dexter this week Friday.  Lifting at Toby's is still T-Th.  We are holding off-season meetings this week to discuss last season & set goals.

If you know of any parent in the middle school or high school not receiving this please let me know.

Spring is starting to show, go on out and see Dan play tennis, Josh & Coleman run track, enjoy!

Yours in Hornet Wrestling,

Pat

3/27/07 - Leadership meetings begin tomorrow morning...we will be discussing the captain process, summer camp, and our strength program.  6:30 AM, if someone needs a ride please let me know.

A reminder that applications for the 2007-08 captain deadline is Friday April 13th by 3:00 PM.

I will be holding end of the year meetings with wrestlers the week after spring break to review last season, set goals for the 2007 off-season & 2007-08 wrestling season.  Wrestlers sign up for an appointment on Coach Weber's door.

There is a "Border Wars" tournament this Saturday at Mason.  There is a limit of 500 wrestlers for the tournament, I spoke with the organizer today and she said there were 100 open spots as of this morning, so if you are interested, register ASAP.

http://www.borderwarswrestling.com/Qualifying_Event/2007/MMT.html

If a wrestler is not currently in a spring sport, they need to be lifting M-W-F after school.  Freestyle practice is M-W beginning 6-8pm at the High School.

The 3rd marking period ends this Friday.  I wish you all a wonderful, relaxing spring break!

Coach Weber

3/12/07 - Aaron finished up going 1-2 at the State finals, a match away from placing.  What an awesome season.

Freestyle will be starting soon (It is a shorter season) more info to come.

Weightlifting should be going on as of now, we have the High School facility and soon (with the help of the Burke's flat bed and some assistance from any of the boys) we will have a sufficient weight room in  Toby Weston's garage.  Strength is a key to our success next season!

The banquet is still Tuesday March 20 at 6:30 at the Brookshire.  $12 per person.  Camp information will be announced here.

We have the golf outing to plan so we will announce meetings to do so.  If you know of any businesses that would want to give donations, please start to ask.

There are a few MYWAY tournaments coming up, Tom Schultz gave me this for the coming weekend in Mason.  It is my hope that the boys get as many matches as they can this off-season.

I will pass this along to all interested in wrestling this weekend in Mason.

Thank you all for a great year.

Pat

2/12/07 - The State Tournament starts this week!  We have Team Districts on Thursday and Individual Districts on Saturday.

Thursday, we travel to East Jackson High, the bus leaves at 2:50.  Inspection will be at 4:30.  Weigh In at 5:00.  Wrestling against Stockbridge in the first round at 6 PM.  It is a single elimination tournament.

Friday, we will set up for the Individual District around 5.  Three mats and the head table is the task at hand that night.  Should go smoothly with all the help we had last time.

Saturday, the boys should be at the school at 7 AM.  Inspection is at 7:30.  Weigh in at 8 AM.  Wrestling will begin around 9 AM.  The first round is single elimination.  The remaining rounds will be double, the top 4 will move on to Regionals the following weekend.

The kitchen committee will be meeting tomorrow (2/13) at the Brookshire at 7 PM to discuss what is needed in the kitchen.  Additionally, you should be getting a call from either Jeff Langhart or Dawn Risch to see where you can help on Saturday.

Practices will run until about 5 this week.

The banquet is tentatively scheduled for Thursday March 22 at 7 PM at the Brookshire.  More details to follow.

MSU is home against Indiana on Friday night and Wisconsin on Sunday.  The boys get in for free at the pass gate.

We had a strong showing this past weekend.  We have gained valuable experience this year, and I am confident that we will benefit from this year in future conference meets.

See you on the mats!

2/7/07 - At the booster meeting last night, it was decided the "Kitchen Committee" needs to meet next Tuesday to determine what supplies are needed for the Individual District.

Jeff Langhart will be contacting parents to work the gate and weigh-in.

Dawn Risch is in charge of workers for the table.

Additionally, I thought the basketball game was home, but it is away at LCC Friday the 16th, so we can set up either before or after practice.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our final home dual tomorrow.  Parent line up will be at 6:15.

Pat

2/6/07 - I believe winter is officially here because of the extreme temperatures, we might as well gather in gymnasiums throughout Michigan and wrestle!

Constantine was a great trip.  The boys did a great job.  Another guest at our hotel stopped Brad and complimented the boys as having the "Best Behavior of young men, ever."

This week we have Parent's Night,  I want to extend a special invitation to you all to come and give recognition to you and your son's accomplishments throughout the year.  We will be wrestling Perry and Webberville.  Please be there by 6:30.

There will be a JV league meet Friday night  beginning at 6 PM in Lakewood.  As of now, I will be taking the 3-4 boys after school.

The League meet is Saturday at Lakewood.  Wrestling begins at 9 AM.  CAAC passes will be good at the door.

Wrestling Club meeting tonight.  We need to plan out the Individual District tournament.  Additionally, we will need to start planning the Golf Outing in May.  7 PM, Brookshire Banquet Room.

Have a wonderful day,

Pat

1/29/07 - Hopefully everyone enjoyed their weekend away from wrestling.  The end of the season  is closing in, I am looking forward to seeing the season's effort pay off.

I do need to know soon, who will be able to drive us to Three Rivers on Friday with a Noon departure.

We are at the Corunna Quad Thursday.  We will wrestle Corunna and either Lakeville or Saginaw Heritage.  Bus leaves at 4:30 PM and wrestling begins at 6:30.

I would like to clarify for Constantine.  In year's past, we have been able to get all of our JV's in to wrestle.  I am expecting the same, however, it is a 10 man round robin tournament, if there is a full weight, I cannot guarantee an entry for JV.  JV's will travel regardless.

Weigh-ins for Team Districts & Individual Districts will be on site.

We will have a Booster's Meeting on Tuesday, February 6th at 7 PM at the Brookshire.  We will plan the Individual District Tournament.

Open Gym will be held again this Sunday.

Have an awesome afternoon!

Pat

1/22/07 - What an outstanding day Saturday!  I want to thank you all for your excellent work and hospitality.  I had many people come up to me and let me know how well we ran the tournament.  We setup & tore down in record time, the kitchen was fantastic, and tons of great wrestling.  The strength of our program relies on our people, we have such a great support staff, I cannot thank you enough.  The credit goes to all of you.

Just a few reminders:

Practice today at 3 pm.

This week we have Lakewood (1/25) at home, JV at 6:30, Varsity at 7.

Middle School practice starts tomorrow. Todd DeMand is the coach.

MSU meets on Friday and Sunday. Free admission for Williamston wrestlers, let me know if you need your name on the pass list.

Open Gyms will start this Sunday to get some extra work in.

Constantine tournament on 2/3.  Everyone will travel and wrestle.  We will take off after lunch, practice with Three Rivers, stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Three Rivers, and wrestle 5 matches on Saturday.
We will weigh in before we leave.   Please let me know if you can drive Friday (2/2).

We are entering the home stretch of the season.  Continue to encourage your son to finish strong, they are doing well.

1/19/07 - We had a great run at Portland this week.  We are starting to see the payoff for the work we have put in.  I was pleased with the effort, we do have a tough road in the next few weeks, but I am confident we will rise to the challenge.

The week is winding down with exams and we are gearing up for what will quite a competitive tournament this weekend.

We will be setting up this evening (1/19) around 5:30.  We need all the help we can get in the gym and kitchen.  The more help we get the sooner we will get out.

On Saturday morning, people should start showing up at 7:00ish.  All the boys should be there by 7:15.

We have a home meet next Thursday night against Lakewood and we are off next weekend.  MSU has a home meet on Friday (1/26) and Sunday (1/28), we will be organizing another bus trip for these dates.

The league meet and District meets are closing in, mark your calendars for 2/17 because we are hosting the District meet.

We also will need drivers for the annual Constantine trip on 2/2.  We will want to leave around Noon to catch practice with Three Rivers.  This tournament guarantees five matches for all, JV will go on this trip
since we can slide them in to the tournament.

See you all tonight!

Pat

1/12/07 - In JV action against Fowlerville at home last night, Isaac McDonald won by injury default, Tommy Siefring won by pin and Josh Bucklin won by decision

The varsity fell to the 9th ranked Fowlerville Gladiators last night 51-18.  The boys wrestled well, we are very close in each match, we just need to continue to gain experience.

Aaron Risch won by decision improving to 19-1, Glen Sible moved to 17-2 by major decision (12-0), Victor Theis won by tech fall, and Ian Leavey won by pin garnering his 16th win of the season.

Casey Sible lost a dramatic match in triple overtime.

Williamston Wrestling takes to road this weekend for the Burton-Bendle Invitational.

1/8/07 - WOW, Thursday night was a good indication of things to come, we have not been that competitive in the league in quite some time.  Outstanding effort.  We had an outstanding crowd. This weekend, showed we were out of our routine, not disappointed in the effort, we just need to buckle
down for the remaining tournaments.

Selected JV wrestlers will be invited to weekend tournaments, otherwise they will be encouraged to come and support their teammates or stay home and concentrate on their studies on the weekends until further notice.  However, this does not excuse them from the Mooney Classic.

We have a booster's meeting tomorrow at 7 pm at the Brookshire.  We need a representative from each family to ensure we have all of our bases covered for the tournament on the 20th.

We debut at home this Thursday night, should be a great crowd.

This weekend we are traveling to Burton-Bendle, wrestling begins at 10AM.   Bus leaves at 7:20 AM.

Finals start next week Wednesday, our dual that night at Portland will start at 6 PM rather than 6:30.  3:45 bus time.  Subs have been pre-ordered.  Thanks Mrs. Bradley.

See you all this week,

Pat

1/3/07 - Happy New Year!  I firmly believe that 2007 will be the year of the Hornet for the wrestling program.   We will jump leaps and bounds in the next few months and we kick off that improvement with our dual tomorrow with Haslett.

Tomorrow, the bus will leave at 5:00 PM.  JV matches will begin around 6:30.  Varsity will start right after.  It should be a great contest. Tina Bradley organized a deal with Jersey Giant, if the boys want a sub between school and the dual, they can give me 5 bucks and they're set. They need to get the money to me by noon.  Sorry for the short notice, but we'll continue to do this prior to duals.

Friday is another weigh in.  Team meal will be right after practice in the cafeteria provided by the McDonald family.  Activity for the night is optional, there is a home basketball game or those interested can travel to Jenison Field House for the MSU/Central Michigan dual meet at 7 pm.

Saturday we are at Jackson Parma Western Invitational.  The bus will leave at 7:30 AM.  Wrestling begins at 10 AM.  Please contact me if you plan on driving.  We have been doing a great job with that, thanks!

Finals are the week of Jan 17-19.  We have a dual on the 17th and host the Mooney Classic on the 20th.

This will be the busiest month for us, two booster club meetings to organize our home tourney, plenty of weekend tournaments and duals.

I am very excited about the start of the new year, thank you again for your support, we'll see you tomorrow!

Pat

12/18/06 - We placed 12th out of 22 teams this weekend.  Outstanding effort for the young squad.  We are continually improving, we just need more experience. Aaron Risch placed 1st, Glen Sible 2nd, Ian Leavey 3rd, Andy Mesi & Casey Sible were 8th.

Thanks to the Bradley's and Bucklin's for an awesome team dinner last Friday night!

Just a few quick reminders before we head off into Winter Break.

Practice this week will be from 3:30 to 5:30.  Grades are starting to drop, so this will give the boys an opportunity to catch up.  I will contact those parents with eligibility issues.

Optional practices begin December 26th from 10:00-12:30.  Optional means that if they are in town they should be at practice.  We need to maintain the conditioning and continue to improve on technique.

It is very important for the boys to be at practice Jan 1 & 2, we have weigh in on the 3rd and have a dual with Haslett on the 4th.

Booster club meeting 1/9 & 1/16.  We need a representative from each family at these meetings in order to ensure we have enough help for the Mooney Classic.  This event helps fund our activities throughout the year.

Last call for shirt orders!  Please email Brad if you want one by 4:30 today (Monday) if you still want some stocking stuffers. Brad@williamstonwrestling.com

If you or a business you know of would like to be a sponsor to Williamston Wrestling, please let Coach Weber know. $100 sponsor will receive a Williamston Wrestling polo and autographed team photo, $200 sponsor receives either two polo shirts OR one jacket along with the autographed photo.

Please feel free to contact me over the break if there are any questions.

The season is a third over, the boys have worked very hard, thank you all for your support, have a wonderful holiday!

Pat Weber

12/15/06 - The boys continue to improve. We wrestled pretty well, we just need to continue to put the work in that will win the close matches.  Our young kids are stepping up to the challenge of varsity wrestling. Considering most of our kids battled illness this week, we got a great effort out of them.  Glen Sible is still undefeated 10-0 and Aaron Risch is 11-1.

We travel to Chippewa Hills this weekend and then break until a January 4th dual with Haslett.

12/11/06 - The trip to Pinconning was a great experience for our young team, it was a good test to see where we are as a team before the  winter break. The boys are continually improving and their hard work is showing on the mat.

We face off with DeWitt Thursday night at 6:30.  This should be a great match.  There should be a good amount of JV matches as well.

12/4/06 - All the boys wrestled very well last weekend in our opener at Hudson.  It was very exciting seeing them go at it in their first competition of the year.  We have the makings of an outstanding team.
