One to the Finals

After a League and a District Championship, 135 pound Brad Simmons is ready to make his first trip to the State Finals at the Palace.  Despite an injury Brad placed fourth at the Regional Championships at Corunna on Saturday to earn his place at the Finals.

I finally have the box scores up to date and will keep you up to date on the action from the Palace in two weeks.

Starting to Improve

After a rocky start the young Williamston team is starting to show a lot of improvement.  We dropped 2 at the Hillsdale Quad, but several individuals notched wins and then we went 4-1 at the Morrice Team Tournament.  A little more hard work we are going to grow into a team to be reckoned with.  All of box scores are up to date, check them out here.

This week we travel to DeWitt for the CAAC league opener on Thursday.  Whistles are at 7:00pm, see you there!

Still Growing

The Hornets continue to add wrestlers to the team with 2 new faces in the room in the past week.  With all of the new blood the team will grow and develop into a team other teams are concerned with.

The team took their lumps last weekend at the ultra-tough Howell Invitational with a single place winner.  Brad Simmons went 3-1 on the day with his only loss coming to a 2-time state champion in the semi-finals.  He bounced back for a 3rd place finish.

Tonight the team travels to Hillsdale for a quad at 6:00pm, and on Saturday they will compete in the Morrice Team Tournament at 10:00am.  See you there!

And we're off...

The 2004-2005 Williamston Wrestling season is underway.  Saturday at the Stockbridge Invitational the Hornets finished in the middle of the 7 team field.  Brad Simmons lead the team with a Championship finish.  Jeff Kane, Cory Alchin, and Billy Haun finished second, with Ben Schlanke and Ryan VanSickler in third.  Also posting wins  were Kurt Smith, Ryan Lucas and Steve Smith.

Tomorrow the team travels to Owosso for a Quad, whistles at 6:00pm.  To get to Owosso High travel north on M-52 to the north side of town and turn right on North street to get to the school.  See you there!

Time to Wrestle

Contrary to rumor I'm still around, however a business move, a new career, a summer of wrestling across the country, and life in general has kept me very, very occupied.  But now it's time to get back to the mat and the Hornets are nearly ready to begin.

The new season starts on Saturday at the Stockbridge Invitational and there is a familiar look for the Green.  If you look in the corner you will find none other than our Hall-of-Fame Coach Jim Mooney back from retirement and at the helm once again.  He's being assisted by Toby Weston, and a crew of regulars. They are rebuilding the great tradition that is Williamston Wrestling.  The room has lots of great young talent and we hope to being making an impact very soon.  Join us Saturday and see for yourselves, whistles at 9:30am.

To get to Stockbridge High School just follow M-52 south into Stockbridge.  Turn left at the first stop sign and the school is about 3 blocks down on the left.

The Williamston Wrestling Club youth wrestling program is starting up on Monday, December 6th.  Practices will be held on Mondays and Wednesdays at the Middle school fro 6:00-8:00pm.  For more information come to practice or call Coach Scott Bloom at 927-1114.
